A 7 Days safari visiting the Aberdares, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Samburu National Reserve and Meru National Park Safari. Aberdares National Park is a 3 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Open moorlands and dense forests characterize the vast park coupled with a deep lush of clean crisp air perfect for a break away from life in search of relaxation, peace and tranquility.
The mountainous scenery is one of the highlights of a visit to this wonderland. The park is renowned for its torrential waterfalls, Karuru water falls, Gura waterfalls and Magura water falls plunging from cloud-shrouded heights to spray-filled ravines. Other unique attractions include; the dragon teeth, which is a volcanic, rock formation assuming the rugged look of a set of teeth sitting on a jaw.
They are located in the northern moorlands part of the park, south of the equator. The park boasts of rare wildlife species including–Black rhino, Black Leopard and the Eastern Bongo (a huge forest Antelope). Elephants, buffalos, giraffes, blue and colobus monkey, leopard, lion, warthog, giant forest hog among many others are also found in the park. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to Kenya’s largest population of Black Rhino, large numbers of elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard, African wild dog and plentiful plains game.
There are also a number of the rarer Northern species such as Grevys Zebra, Jackson’s Hartebeest and Beisa Oryx. It is a 3-hour drive from Nairobi. The conservancy lies on the Equator and affords wonderful views of Mt Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy also permits night game drives which focus on species not seen on regular day drives. Samburu National Reserve, one of the famous safari destinations in East Africa. It is located in the Northern part of Kenya on the banks of Ewaso Nyiro river.
It is 5-6 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Samburu National Reserve is a haven for an abundance of rare species of animals such as the Grevy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich. It is also home to Elephants, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. Birds are also common in the reserve with over 450 species. Meru National Park sits intact in a wilderness less visited, remote, unspoilt yet surrounded by natural beauty. It is a 6 hours’ drive from Nairobi. It is wild and beautiful, straddling the equator and bisected by 13 rivers and numerous mountain-fed streams.
The scenery is diverse from woodlands at 3,000ft on the slopes of Nyambene mountain range, northeast of Mt. Kenya to wide-open plains with meandering riverbanks dotted with doum palms. The park boasts of wildlife species including elephant, Grevy’s zebra, lion, cheetah, leopard, hartebeest, hippo, buffalo and the reticulated giraffe among others. Meru hosts a rhino sanctuary that is home to the endangered black and white rhino species.
Bird life is also exceptionally diverse with over 400 bird species recorded including Peter’s Fin foot, Pel’s fishing owl, kingfishers, rollers, bee-eaters, starlings and weavers. The rivers abound with hippo populations, crocodiles, and fish. Itinerary
Day 1 Nairobi To Aberdares National Park
Pick up in Nairobi Hotel/Airport and Depart for Aberdares at 7.30 am. This will be a 3 hours’ drive. The journey is quite beautiful crossing through the Kenyan Highlands, past pineapple and coffee plantations. Arrive at the lodge just in time for lunch and later proceed for an afternoon game drive in search of the Black rhino, Black Leopard and the Eastern Bongo (a huge forest Antelope), Elephants, buffalos, giraffes, blue and colobus monkey, leopard, lion, warthog. Enjoy the mountainous scenery region which is much cooler than the savannahs and offers a completely different feel. Lunch, dinner and overnight at The Ark Lodge/Treetops Lodge.
Day 2 Aberdares National Park To Ol Pejeta Conservancy
We depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy after breakfast. Arrive at the camp in the afternoon for check in and lunch. Later we visit the Ol Pejeta Conservancy situated West of Nanyuki for an afternoon game drive. You will have a chance to see chimpanzees and other wild animals in the parts of the conservancy. Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts of the largest black rhino in East Africa and houses two of the remaining Northern white rhinos in the world. You may be able to see a variety of animals like buffalo, giraffe, and zebra and plains game during the game drive. Drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Day 3 Ol Pejeta Conservancy To Samburu National Reserve
We depart our camp for Samburu. There will be an enroute stop over to view Mount Kenya with its Snow-capped peaks. Arrive at the camp/lodge just in time for check in and lunch. Embark on your first game drive in the afternoon with a chance of spotting the Grevy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich, Elephants, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. Later in the evening drive back to your camp/lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch and dinner at Camp/lodge.
Day 4 Full Day Samburu National Reserve
Early morning game drive before returning to the camp/lodge for breakfast. After breakfast embark on a full day game drive with packed lunch boxes. This shall be a full day of unlimited wildlife viewing. Possible sightings of unique wildlife species like Oryx, Gerenuk, Gravy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich and other wild animals’ peculiar to this semi-arid region. Your game drives will be along Ewaso Nyiro river where most of the wild animals are found. You will also be able to watch different species of birds found in the reserve. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at Camp/Lodge.
Day 5 Samburu National Reserve To Meru National Park
We depart for Meru National Park after breakfast. The road meanders through valleys especially after Embu town where you will have a stopover for sight-seeing. Arrive at your camp late in the afternoon for check in and lunch. Later in the evening proceed to Meru National Park Murera gate for your first thrilling game drive. The park is home to a large pride of lions, herds of buffalo, hippos and crocodiles that live in the rivers. Meru National Park is noted for its fauna and natural beauty. It has many swamps and rivers lined with palms as well as mountains and woodlands. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp.
Day 6 Full Day Meru National Park
We spend full day in Meru National Park for the morning and afternoon game drives. Its natural scenery is diverse, from the wide-open plains with many rivers to the woodlands on the slopes of the Nyambeni mountain range, to the north east of Mount Kenya. Game viewing includes elephants, hippos, lions, leopards and cheetahs. There are also some rare antelope including the Lesser Kudu, duiker and dik-dik, a tiny African antelope that is notoriously shy and stands twelve inches high. Meru National Park also has some of the largest herds of buffalo, giraffes, gazelles along with hartebeests. It also has over 400 species of birds including the Peters Finfoot, rollers, bee-eaters, starlings and numerous weavers. There’s also an abundance of ostriches, hornbills, eagles and other smaller birds. Breakfast, Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp.
Day 7 Meru National Park To Nairobi
After breakfast drive back to Nairobi. Upon arrival you will have late lunch at the famous carnivore restaurant then later on dropped off at your hotel/Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to board your flight back home. Breakfast at Ikweta Safari Camp and Lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant.
