Overview

A Safari in Kenya isn't just about breathtaking landscapes and stunning wildlife; it's also a journey for your taste buds. Kenya Safari Foods offers a delightful fusion of flavours, influenced by indigenous traditions, Arabic, Indian, and European culinary elements. As you plan for your Kenya Safari, savouring the local cuisine is an adventure in itself.

Kenya Food is so famous because of the traditional way of cooking recipes. Here is the list of Kenyan food to taste while on Kenya Safari Tours.

Staple Dishes:

  • Ugali: This maize porridge is Kenya's national dish and a staple in many Kenyan meals. Often served as an accompaniment to meat, vegetables, or stews, Ugali is dense and satisfying. The best way to enjoy it is by rolling it into a small ball and using it to scoop up other dishes.
  • Chapati: A thin, unleavened flatbread with soft and crispy layers, Chapati is perfect for scooping up stews or enjoying with Kenyan curries.
  • Nyama Choma: This translates to "burned meat," and it's Kenya's version of barbecued meat. Often prepared with goat or beef, Nyama Choma is a must-try, especially when accompanied by chips (French fries) and pili (hot sauce).
  • Sukuma Wiki: A popular vegetable dish, Sukuma Wiki is made from collard greens cooked with spices, tomatoes, and onions. It's a simple yet flavourful side dish.
  • Githeri: This is a hearty mix of boiled maize and beans, often seasoned with spices, tomatoes, and onions. It's a nutritious and filling meal.

  • Mutura: Kenyan sausage made from minced meat, herbs, and spices, often grilled to perfection.
  • Mahamri: These are sweet, cardamom-flavoured doughnuts, a speciality of the Swahili culture.

Fish Food Galore:

Kenya's coastal regions offer a fantastic array of fresh seafood. Visit places like Mnemba Islands, Chumbe Islands, and Pemba Islands for authentic and delicious seafood dishes.

Exotic Flavors:

For those seeking more adventurous culinary experiences, explore dishes like Ndizi Nyama (meat and banana cooked in a spicy sauce) and Zanzibar Pizza, a unique local delicacy.

Kenya's food culture is as diverse as its landscapes, making it an essential part of your safari experience. Don't miss the opportunity to savour these unique flavours and culinary traditions as you explore this incredible East African destination.

We understand the importance of great relationships, and that's why we have been cultivating ours on the continent for over decades.

From the very first inquiry email to my departure from Nairobi, Silas and his team at Safari Update Travels could not have been more supportive and friendly. I was met at the airport, delivered to the hotel and throughout the 3 day safari the driver, accommodation and food were superb.

I had an amazing experience in Masai Masa. I booked my Masai Mara 3 day 2 night package from Safari Update Travels. My point of contact was Silas who has always been available to answer all my queries. He is easily reachable. He had assigned to us tour guide Jack who did a brilliant job as we witnessed all big fives.

What a fantastic experience and trip Silas and the Safari Updates team organized. They are skilled, competent, and incredibly diligent. He accomplished our goal of taking safaris in both Kenya and Tanzania over the course of six days. Despite having made our booking for Kilimanjaro with a different Firm, he assisted us and remained in touch with us to see how we were doing.

I and my family went on a 7-day trip to Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and to Masai Mara. Amboseli had the most amazing heart of elephants, as well as a spectacular view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. There are plenty of animals at Lake Nakuru... lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffe, buffalo.

The agent Xavier is very social and clear in his communication. We had a really great experience in Masai Mara. We enjoyed the game drives, and Martin was an excellent driver and guide. Very knowledgeable and was able to answer all the questions that we had. The accommodation in jambo mara was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
