Kenya vs Tanzania: Which Safari Is Right for You?
Kenya and Tanzania share the same Mara–Serengeti ecosystem, but each brings something different to a trip.
At a glance
Factor | Kenya | Tanzania |
|---|---|---|
Signature reserve | Maasai Mara | Serengeti & Ngorongoro |
Flight access | Fast, frequent domestic flights | Slightly longer transfers, fewer strips |
Beach add-on | Diani (longer transfer) | Zanzibar (short hop, very popular) |
Best for | Shorter, flight-connected circuits | Longer, overland grand tours |
Our honest take
If you have a week or less, Kenya's flight network gets you more game viewing per day. If you have ten days or more, a Tanzania-led circuit with a Zanzibar finale is hard to beat.
Most of our best-loved itineraries do both — the border between them is administrative, not ecological.
